Relationship Preservation

The most intense conflicts, if overcome, leave behind a sense of security and calm that is not easily disturbed.
It is just these intense conflicts and their conflagration, which are needed to produce valuable and lasting results.
–C.G. Jung

DJS Mediation Services believes that learning to see the value of conflict requires looking for the opportunities to serve the parties. Cooperation and personal growth can flourish if third parties offer constructive intervention. Stress first exposes tensions in mood, voice, and actions, often resulting in disagreement or withdrawal. Defining and providing for the immediate need may be enough, or a relationship may appear weak enough that a neutral party is useful in building a bridge between the parties.

What Type of Relationship Issues Can Benefit from this Service?

Our services are suitable for difficulties facing:
  • Extended Family, In-Laws and Estrangement
  • Remarriage, Step-family issues and ex-spouses
  • Marital Reconciliation
  • Conflicts within the Courts; may be court-ordered or voluntary
  • Divorce related concerns
  • Disputes with schools, communication barriers, staff conflicts
  • What does it take to Preserve My Relationship?

Peacekeeping measures, such as protection and refereeing, mean the resolution can move forward. As the mediator equalizes power, each party develops the confidence needed to fully express their concerns, either privately or through the mediation. When each side believes their needs are understood and addressed, then the parties can begin to develop a new orientation toward the issues that in the past would have led to destructive patterns. Use a neutral professional to address these tensions and monitor communication until success is more common than frustration due to better judgment and more accountability for new actions.

    How Do We Get Started?

DJS Mediation Services is committed to helping you preserve and improve your relationships. Conflict is an unavoidable component of any relationship. Dramatically and rapidly improve your communication and/or parenting skills during private, professional time with Deborah J Schmidt, MA.

Contact Us or call directly at 214.550.0371. You may also email us directly at reconcile@djsmediation.com.

    Then What Do We Do?

The parties involved in the dispute will meet with a relationship preservation coach for an intake consultation. This meeting may be conducted with all parties together, or in separate sessions depending on your preferences and the nature of your dispute.
We compile a Preservation Plan involving a vast array of resources, ranging from recommended readings, relationship enhancing retreats, counseling referrals, or any number of other tools.
The parties involved meet again to discuss the specifics of the Preservation Plan, and then sign the agreed-upon Plan.
Regular meetings with the relationship preservation coach will increase accountability and improve adherence to the agreed plan of action.

    What Happens Next?

Once a conflict is resolved, the need for prevention is obvious. Poor communication created an expectation that old habits will resume; being ignored fueled anxiety. The articles that led up to the dispute deserve a hard look, will expose the frustrated needs, as well as disregarded core concerns. A mediator can teach life skills and bridge social gaps, which may affirm the injured and promote healing. Only a personal commitment to change can effectively bring about personal development.
